September 1, 2009: Today was my first prenatal visit for baby #2. Everything looks good so far. Yes, I know. Why did it take me 15 weeks to get to the OBGYN? Believe me, I got a talking to by my doctor about why I should have come in sooner. However, I was trying to decide if I wanted to go to Dr. Irion again or find another OBGYN. Last time, I wasn't too impressed with Dr. Irion. He wasn't very bedside friendly and during my delivery with Jade I told him two things, one I didn't want an episiotomy and two, that I wanted to wait a couple of hours to deliver Jade so that she was born on May 5 (that happens to be Grandma Bills' birthday). He told me that he would decide if I needed an episiotomy or not and swore when I told him we would be waiting several hours. So you can see why I was hesitant to go back to him. However, aside from the chastisement for not coming in sooner, he was very pleasant. So maybe I didn't make a bad choice in going back to him. We will see I guess.
September 3, 2009: I went to work tonight and asked Katherine, one of the Ultrasound techs, if she would do an ultrasound to see if we could see the sex of the baby. To my utter amazement it came back that we are having another little girl. I actually didn't believe her when she first told me, although I could clearly see for myself that it was a girl. But I just couldn't believe it really was one. I have thought from the beginning that this one would be a boy. I mean, this entire pregancy has been totally different from the one with Jade that I thought for sure it had to be a boy. My morning sickness hasn't been nearly as bad this time, however I have been more tired and have had some pretty bad headaches.
Jen Sorensen, my sister-in-law was actually the only one who thought it would be a girl. She did this strange eye test where she looks at the veins in your eyes and if your veins make hooks that means it's a girl and a "v" shaped vein means it's a boy. She saw hooks and she was right. Dang, I hate being wrong! Don't get me wrong, I'm excited. Just a little disappointed, that's all.
September 4, 2009: Lake Powell here we come! We left for Lake Powell today around 3:30pm with the entire Gunn Clan in tow. We drove our truck pulling "our" jetskies and Dad took the Trooper pulling his new boat. It took us forever to get there with all of our brewski stops and the 55mph that Dad drove while pulling the boat. We finally arrived at Red Rock Condos around midnight. This time around Aaron and I have our own condo so that Jade can sleep and not be disturbed by everyone else. Besides with 12 of us going we definately need some more space.
I thought Jade would go right back to sleep but I think she was nervous to be sleeping in an unfamiliar location and so she wouldn't sleep in her pack-n-play. She wanted to sleep with us instead. That means I didn't get any sleep all night long because Jade is such a fitfull sleeper that all she does it move and twitch. Of course, this keeps me up, especially when I have feet and Beary Beary in my face all night. However, this doesn't affect Aaron in the slightest. He slept right through it all. Lucky him.
September 5, 2009: We got up early this morning...thanks to Jade, but it still took us forever to get to the lake. There sure is a lot of stuff that has to be done with a boat. We didn't get the boat or the jetskies launched until almost noon. We decided to beach near Lone Rock again. We stay there every year. Dad decided that for his first trip out on the Lake with the boat that we weren't going to go up the channel. I think he is super nervous to drive the boat and so he just wanted to practice in an open area and get some boat hours under his belt before he tried the channel.
Jade had a great time. She spent most of the day just playing in the sand with her sand toys or walking along the edge of the water getting her feet wet. She really loves the water and being outside with everyone. She didn't have one problem all day and she even took a nap in the truck.
Aaron was able to wakeboard a little bit. His calf is still giving him problems and it's really swollen but he wanted to try it. He was able to go a couple of runs before his calf gave out. He did a really good job. I wanted to try wake boarding but unfortunately I'm banned from water sports due to my pregnancy! Bummer!
September 6, 2009: Today is Sunday and we decided it would probably be breaking the Sabbath if we went out on the boat today. So we spent most of the day at our condo. We actually switched condos to one bigger one across the street called Debbi's Hideout. We all fasted today due to Fast Sunday and a nice time at church. We came back and just relaxed. Some of us took naps while others watched sports. We had a lovely roast dinner and ate outside on our little patio and then went for a small hike to Dead Horse Point. We stayed to watch the sun set and then came back and played games and snacked all night. It was a great lazy Sunday.
September 7, 2009: We got up early today and went back to the Lake. We spent the entire day on the boat. The jetskies got used but for the most part we all were on the boat either tubing, wake boarding or just cruising listening to tunes. Jade was able to fall asleep in the cuddy and she slept there for a good two hours. We also found this neat place out in the middle of the lake that had some exposed rocks that you could climb on. It made it appear as if you were walking on water. We had a good time trying to push each other off and into the water. Also Austin, Hudson and Aaron all had the opportunity to learn how to drive the boat. I was hoping it would get Aaron excited to want to buy one someday but he said it just made him too nervous. He did a great job he just didn't like having the responsibility of everyones lives' resting upon his shoulders.
As according to tradition, we didn't get off the lake until super late. We had just enough time to get to the mexican restaurant in Kanab before it closed. I don't think they were too excited to see a party of 12 walk in 10 minutes before closing. But we sure were grateful. They have great food, especially when you have been out on the lake all day.
We didn't get home until 4am and we still had to unload the truck and Trooper before we could go to bed. We didn't get to sleep until almost 5:30am and poor Aaron had to be up and to work before 8am for an important meeting. Poor guy was so tired he couldn't even see straight.
September 9, 2009: Aaron is on his way to Vermont for business. He should be back on the 11th.
September 11, 2009: Mom Gunn and I spent all day canning peaches for our food storage. I know, how very domestic of me!
Also while we were canning, Jade was in Mom Gunn's room watching "shows" with Hudson. They were watching an episode of Dirtiest Jobs and Mike Rowe was helping to birth calves. Jade was so into the show that every time a commerical would come on she would start to cry. So Hudson would rewind it (thank heavens for DVR)during the commericals and she would rewatch the calves being born. She watched the entire one hour show and loved it. I have such a weird kid!
September 12, 2009: Today Aaron, Jade, and I went to the Utah State Fair for the day. It was super hot outside so we didn't stay long, plus everything was so expensive inside the park that we didn't want to really do anything. It cost us an arm and leg to get in and we just didn't feel like spending tons of money for carnival rides. We did walk around and show Jade all of the farm animals. She loved seeing the cows, especially after watching Dirtiest Jobs. We were going to let her ride the ponies but they cost too much. (I know, we are cheap skates)
After the State Fair we met my family at Italian Village to celebrate Hudson's birthday. Hudson won't turn 24 until tomorrow but it's a Sunday and we wanted to take him out to eat for his birthday. So we celebrated it a day early. After the usual at Italian Village we went to Leatherby's and then to my house to play Rock Band. Everyone had a really good time and I think Hudson enjoyed his early birthday.
September 13, 2009: Hudson is officially 24 years old today. We had his birthday dinner at Mom Gunn's house and he opened presents. It was a nice evening. Jade loved blowing out Hudson's candles and did it at least half a dozen times.
September 14, 2009: Today I started walking with a group of ladies from our ward. They invited Jade and I to walk with them in the mornings from 9am-10am. We walk around the neighborhood several times making the distance a little short of 3 miles. Jade really likes it because there are kids close to her age that go and she likes interacting with them. I especially enjoy the interaction with the ladies and really like getting out every morning and getting some exercise. It makes me more productive during the day.
September 15, 2009: Today Mom and Dad Gunn went to Lake Powell with all the original Gunn adults and Grandma and Grandpa Gunn. I am totally jealous that we weren't invited to go, but even if we were invited we wouldn't be able to go. Aaron doesn't have enough vacation hours with our cruise coming up in October. So Jade and I basically hung out all day at our house with nothing to do. I didn't feel like doing any house work or catching up on any projects so instead we sat out on our front porch wishing we had friends. Jade was so bored she walked over to the Loosli's house and knocked on their door to see if McKay was there. But of course he wasn't. She then walked over to our neighbors house to the east of us and knocked on their door. I don't think she expected anyone to answer and neither did I so it was shocking when our neighbor Greg opened the door in his underwear. It startled Jade so bad she started to cry. I apologized perfusly because I know Greg works nights and he was probably sleeping but he wasn't mad. In fact he talked to Jade for a minute and then waved goodbye. Funny kid!
September 16, 2009: I forget how much I enjoy going down to my mom's house until she isn't in town for a whole week. She's only been gone a day and I am so bored I could scream. To help pass the time, Jade and I went to the Library for the first time (well, Jade's first time.) She loved looking at the books, playing on the kid computers and watching all the kids around her. We spent an entire hour there and then I let Jade check out ten books. She loved it.
Tonight our softball game was cancelled so we had another Sorensen Rock Band Party. People brought snacks and dessert and we played until the wee hours of the night. It was really fun!
September 17, 2009: I think Jade might be catching a cold. She has a runny nose, cough and low grade fever. I hope she is just teething and nothing serious. I don't want to deal with her being sick because that means I will get it too.
September 18, 2009: Since my parents are out of town that measn that Cierra and paige are home by themselves. So we decided to go down to Orem tonight and hang out with the girls. We were going to rent Wolverine and watch it out in the West Desert but it ended up raining and ruining our plans. So instead we stayed at Mom Gunn's house, watched the movie and spent the night with the girls. It was a nice evening and I think the girls enjoyed themselves.

September 20, 2009: Jade is currently obsessed with purses. She loves Paige and Cierra's small purses and carries them all over. Today after church, Aaron placed his scriptures on the ottaman. Jade walked over thinking that they were a purse and tried to grab them off the ottoman. I don't think she understood that they were heavy and so in the process of pulling them off the ottaman, the weight of them knocked her backwards flat on her back with her legs straight up in the air. It caught me so off guard the only thing I could do was laugh. Jade however acted like nothing had happened. She stood up, brushed herself off and looked to see if anyone had seen her embarrassing moment. It was sooooo funny!
September 21, 2009: I went to a Swine Flu Clinic at JVH today. It sure scared the heck out of me. I found out that being in my third trimester, I am one of the highest risk groups. Unfortunately that means when I work I am constantly in contact with the flu and therefore putting myself and the baby at great risk. It makes me think that maybe I shouldn't be working while the Swine Flu is such a scary risk. They are thinking that the Swine Flu could reach Pandemic status this season. I am going to talk to Aaron and see if I should stop working until I have the baby. We'll see what happens.
September 22, 2009: Jade likes to help me with cleaning around the house. Her specialties are helping to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer, putting the clean utensils away after they have been washed, wiping up spills on the floor, throwing her diapers away and picking up toys after she is done playing with them. She is also OCD about several things like closing open doors and putting lids back on things.
Jade is also obsessed with shoes, especially bright colored ones. She loves to putt around the house wearing someone elses shoes or even her own church shoes. She's such a funny little kid.
September 25, 2009: I am officially 19 weeks along with this pregnancy and alreay starting to show. I wasn't nearly this big with Jade. I guess my body knows what to do this time so it isn't wasting any time getting down to business. However, it does nothing for my self esteem. I already feel like a cow. That's not good. I still have 21 weeks to go!!!
I've gotten over the nausea I had earlier in my pregnancy and the headaches seem to have disappeared. Now I am just tired all the time, uncomfortable, fat and my boobs hurt. Other than that I am doing well. :)
September 27, 2009: Today was our much anticipated Primary Program. I was super nervous but the kids did a really good job. I had several people come up to me and tell me how impressed they were with the discipline the children displayed while up on the stand. Everyone was very attentive and sang loud and clearly. We sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" with sign language and even the junior primary did a fantasic job. I was very proud of them all.
September 29, 2009: Today is our third anniversary. Earlier in the week Aaron told me to not make any plans today because he had something planned but he wouldn't give me details. So today after work he told me to pack a bag overnight for all three of us and we drove to Park City. We stopped off for dinner at our favorite mexican restaurant Baja Cantina and then we walked around downtown for a while. While we were walking a group of people came walking up behind us and it was obvious they had had too much to drink. As they walked up along side of us one of the ladies noticed and commented on how adorable Jade was. She was so enamored with her that she didn't see a very tall fire hydrant in front of her. She ran right into it and ended up high centering herself on it. The fire hydrant was tall enought that the lady couldn't stand herself back up without help. It scared Jade and I think it shocked Aaron because he didn't say anything. But I thought it was so funny that I just started laughing hysterically. Finally, one of the ladies' friends came over and helped her stand back up. She was embarrassed and ran off without another word but I think I stood there and laughed for another 5 minutes. It was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time.
After our funny incident, we decided to head to our surprise condo. Aaron wouldn't tell me where we were staying, he said I would just have to wait and see. He ended up driving us to the same condo we stayed at on our honeymoon. It was even the same room we stayed at three years ago to the day. It was so fun to stay the night with Jade. She loved how big the place was and she kept running from one room to another. We stayed the evening and then that next morning woke up to snow on the ground. It was so squeezie with the snow and a real wood fireplace up in the mountains. I could have stayed there all weekend. But alas, check out time came and we had to leave. But it sure was a great way to celebrate our third anniversary.
Saying that, I just wanted to add that I really have enjoyed these three years being married to Aaron. I love him and appreciate everything he does for me and our little family.

August 2009
August 3, 2009: I had an emotional breakdown today. I was doing our laundry and realized that Aaron had left a black ink pen in his shirt pocket and it had exploded all over a batch of darks I was doing. It included most of Jade's summer clothes, my favorite shirts and shorts and one shirt of Aaron's. Of course it totally ruined the clothes. I tried washing them again with all of the home remedies that I could think of, but to no avail. I was so mad that I sat down on the floor of the laundry room and started to cry. Jade was in the laundry room helping me at the time and she came up to me with a worried look on her face. She patted me on the shoulder to comfort me and then gave me a quick hug before she returned to her game of pulling out all the laundry I had just folded. Cute kid.
August 4, 2009: I worked all night out at triage and I swear I could feel the new kid kicking or hiccuping. However I'm only 12 weeks along and the probability of me feeling it move are pretty slim. However I could have sworn I felt it move several times that night. Either that or it was muscle spasm.
August 5, 2009: Dad took Jade over to Gordon's store and there discovered a Two Step Push Car that Jade immediately feel in love with. She loves it so much that she cries if you try to take her out of it. Gord let Dad borrow it for a few days and since then Jade is constantly asking to go outside and ride in it. Unfortunately she has to be pushed in order for it to work. So that means someone has to go with her everytime. Yesterday I took her for a 45 minute walk before we went over to Grandma's house and she still cried when I took her out of it. Crazy kid! You know what this means? I'm going to have to buy one when I give Gordon's back. We'll try KSL.com.

August 8, 2009: Mom and Dad are in Cedar City taking Auburn to SUU for the start of a new semester. This means the girls are by themselves for the weekend. We invited them up to our house to spend Friday night to Saturday with us. It was fun because we all went to the Hoogle Zoo in the morning on Saturday and had a great time. Jade loved seeing the animals, especially the birds at the bird show and it gave Cierra and Paige something to do.
We were only able to stay a half day because Aaron and I had to be in Bountiful by 6pm for Lisa's (Cade's fiance) live endowment session. Cierra and Paige offered to watch Jade while we went, which was super nice of them. The endowment session was lovely and it was nice to see Cade so happy. They are a really cute couple and we are both really excited for them.
August 10, 2009: We are teaching Jade her body parts by her pointing to them. She doesn't say their names, just points when you ask her where something is. She currently knows where her eyes, nose, mouth, feet, hands, belly-button and head are. We were at Grandma and Grandpa Gunn's house tonight for FHE and while I was getting Jade ready for bed, Grandpa Gunn said, "Jade, I can see your boobies." Jade looks down and points right to her boobies and then reached over to Cierra and grabbed both of hers. Needless to say we aren't saying the word "boobies" anymore.
August 11, 2009: Here's another body part story. So tonight Aaron and I went into Jade's room to check on her while she was sleeping. Aaron whispered to Jade, "Jade, where is your head." and to our surprise (because she is dead asleep) Jade lifts her hand and points to her head with her eyes closed. We were both so surprised that we just burst out laughing. What a funny kid!
August 13, 2009: I just thought I would gloat alittle on how domestic I am becoming. For the past two days, mom and I have been making dinners to freeze. We went to a Relief Society meeting in Mom's stake last Wednesday and a lady taught us how to cook 30 meals that you can freeze in one day. We decided to be ambitious and try it out. So this Wednesday we got together and made up our receipes and our shopping list and spent the rest of the day grocery shopping. Besides making 30 meals for each of our families we decided to get ambitious and make meals for both sets of grandparents. I know, we kind of got carried away but we decided to go big or go home. Today we spent all day cooking. It literally took us 10 hours but at the end we had made 80 seperate meals between the four families. The program that this lady taught us helps to minimize your time and effort so that it makes preparing 30 meals in one day do-able, and actually it really is. Both mom and I were super exhausted but it sure was fun to see the product of our labors. Plus we were able to help out both sets of grandparents. It will be interesting to see if we like the receipes we made. Some of them we had never tried before but just thought sounded good. So we will see. Who knows if we will ever do this again but it was fun to at least try it once. For the past two days, the girls and Dad have been doing a lot of babysitting while Mom and I cook. Cierra is super good with Jade and Jade absolutely worships the ground Cierra walks on. She always follows right behind her and calls her "Ra". It absolutely just makes Cierra glow. It's fun to watch their relationship. It's too bad that Jade won't remember it and that Cierra will go off to college and not be around when Jade will actually start to remember interactions with her.

August 14, 2009: Today was Cade's wedding. We spent all day going from different event to different event. Poor little Jade was so exhausted by the end of the night but to her credit, she did really well and was super cute all day. Cade and Lisa got married in the SLC temple and Jade loved pulling her little toy dog around the grounds while we waited for pictures. It was a hot day outside but during the morning there was enough cloud cover that it made it bearable.
Jade has also got into this habit of whenever someone takes a picture and says "Say cheese!", she holds both hands up to her eyes and says back, "cheese." So you never get a picture of her without her hands up around her face. It can be a little infuriating, especially at an occasion like this.
Cade a Lisa had there luncheon across the street at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It was a nice luncheon and Jade especially liked the decatant dessert of chocolate cake and stawberries.
And finally we ended the night with the reception. Jade looked adorable in her hot pink dress that Roanne made. However, the reception was held at a floral shop and they had tons of water fountains. Could I keep Jade away from the water? Of course not. She spent much of the night playing in the water fountains and lying in the gravel that they had spread around the different areas of plants. She had a great time but at the end of the night she was super dirty. We also discovered that Jade can twirl. They had dancing at the end of the reception and Jade had a blast dancing and twirling on the dance floor. We have the cutest videos of her cutting a rug. Needless to say, Jade slept the moment her head touched the car seat and she didn't wake up until late the next morning. Poor kid was exhausted!
August 15, 2009: We invited the entire Sorensen clan over to our house to have pizzas and play Rock Band. Jade loved playing with the cousins. We have pictures of her trying to sing into the microphone and play the guitar. However, her favorite instrument is the drums. She goes to town on those things and loves it!
August 17, 2009: Jade has discovered the taste of wintergreen Livesavers. They are her favorite. She doesn't get the whole thing cause I'm afraid she will choke on it but I will bite her off a piece and she'll suck on it until it's gone. I do occasional candy checks to make sure she still has it and she thinks it's a fun game to stick out her tongue and show me her candy.
August 19, 2009: Dad Gunn is seriously contemplating buying a used boat for our Lake Powell trip at the end of the month. He has been doing some searching on KSL.com and even taken us out to see a few. We of course, are all cheering him on because we would love to spend Lake Powell on a boat.
August 24, 2009: When it rains, it pours! Today we were playing softball with our co-ed team and Aaron had a great hit out into right field. As he was rounding first base to go to second, he turned to wide and in trying to make up for it, pulled his right calf muscle. He actually went down on both knees it hurt him so bad. He was able to make it to second base without getting tagged out but had to have a substitute runner come and finish the game for him. He couldn't even walk out to the car.
Also we found out that Roanne wasn't at the game because she was having horrible abdominal cramps. She had been having the cramps off and on for a week but I guess tonight they were so bad she couldn't even get out of bed. So after the game, I went with Clair and we got Aaron some crutches from his house and picked up Roanne to take her to the ER. I almost convinced Aaron to go and have his leg xrayed but he decided that he would wait a day or two and see how he did. Besides, we both thought it was probably just muscle and there's not much a doctor can do for that. So I sent him home with Jade and went with Roanne to the ER. Of course they were super busy that night but because I work there I was able to slide her in and get things started. I actually just took care of Roanne, did all of her labs and ordering and got her pain free until a MD could come in and take a look at her.
After about 4 hours of tests and waiting, we found out that she had Sigmoid Diverticulitis, which is an infection in her colon. That was great news because it's easily fixable. You take a weeks worth of antibiotics and pain medications until it goes away. AWESOME! By the time I got home though it was almost 4am. I could have worked that night and gotten paid for how long I was there. But that's okay. I'm glad I was able to help Roanne out. That's part of the reason why I became a nurse, so I can help out the ones I love and know how to take good care of them.
August 26, 2009: Aaron is still having problems putting weight on his leg. His calf is hugely swollen and you can see a bumb where we think his muscle has been torn. Aaron received a referral for a sports medicine place out in Alpine and he's going to go there and see if they can help him out a little. He's a little bummed that this had to happen right before we go to Lake Powell because he enjoys wake boarding.
Good news, Dad Gunn bought a boat today. He found a used boat off of KSL.com that some old guy has taken immaculate care of for years. Unfortunately the boat is a 1986. We were all a little sceptical when he told us how old it was but really it's in such great shape and looks so good that you kind of forget that it's more than 20 years old. Obviously the upholstrey is a little outdated but that can easily be fixed later on. And with how little he paid for it, even if we only use it for several years, he will have gotten his money out of it.
To help Dad Gunn be able to buy the boat, Aaron and I bought his jetskies. It cost us $2,000 but that way they can put the money towards the boat and we can still keep the jetskies in the family. So when we go down to Lake Powell in a couple of weeks we will have both the boat AND jetskies to play on. It should be fun.
August 27, 2009: I took Jade in for her 15 month check up today. She is 21 lbs and only in the 25 percentile in her weight. She is in the 50th percentile for her height and of course in the 75th for her head. The pediatrican asked if she was speaking yet. She said she should have at leasdt 20 words by now. Unfortunately, Jade is a late bloomer in the talking category. She does a lot of pointing and makes a lot of sounds and seems to understand directions. But she doesn't see the need to really say words. She does say words like "dad", "mom", "Huey", "Ra" (for Cierra), "wow", "ball" and "bow". Other than that she seems to be right were she should be developmentally. I know I might be a little partial because she is my first kid but I think she is so advanced for her age.
August 28, 2009: Tonight we had a BBQ at our hose and invited some of Aaron's old high school friends and their children. We had a really good time and actually one of the friends remembered that Aaron's birthday was the next day and she brought a cake to celebrate with. That was really nice and you could tell Aaron was touched that they remembered. We all ate outside on our back patio and the kids had a good time playing in our yard. The only problem is they wanted to climb the tall rock wall and I kept having to tell them to get down. Unfortunately, their parents seemed oblivious to the dangers so it was just me telling them to get down. Other than that we had a pleasant evening and it was fun to catch up. After dinner we invited everyone to stay and play Rock Band. They had such a good time that everyone stayed until past eleven.

After everyone left I asked Aaron if he wanted to open his only birthday present early and he said yes. So I gave him his present and was pleased to see that he was pleasantly surprised at the gift. I got him a GPS unit that I knew he needed and wanted. He seemed to really like it.
August 29, 2009: Today Aaron is officially 31 years old. He had an Elders Quorum Gold Tournament in the morning that he was in charge of. Which if anyone knows Aaron it seems almost comical that they would put him in charge of that when he hates playing golf so much. But I guess he did really well with the other 3 guys on his team and ended up winning tickets to any U of U home game of his choice.
Afterwards we met Clair and Roanne at Rumbi's for lunch for Aaron's birthday. It was nice to visit with them and they ended up giving Aaron $100.
After lunch we headed down to my parents and met them at Utah Lake were we tried out Dad Gunn's new boat for the first time. We all tubed and had a really good time. We didn't get off the lake until it was almost dark. Afterwards we headed back to my parents and finished off the day with a yummy BBQ. It ended up being a really fun day and I hope Aaron enjoyed his birthday as much as I did.
sure do love him and appreciate all the things he does for our little family. He is a great man, very loving and gentle. He is great with Jade and always willing to help me around the house. He is a hard worker and excels at everything he does. He is also very dedicated to the church and his calling. He is always willing to serve others by helping people move in and out of the ward and is ready at a moments notice to go visit someone that needs help. August 4, 2009: I worked all night out at triage and I swear I could feel the new kid kicking or hiccuping. However I'm only 12 weeks along and the probability of me feeling it move are pretty slim. However I could have sworn I felt it move several times that night. Either that or it was muscle spasm.
August 5, 2009: Dad took Jade over to Gordon's store and there discovered a Two Step Push Car that Jade immediately feel in love with. She loves it so much that she cries if you try to take her out of it. Gord let Dad borrow it for a few days and since then Jade is constantly asking to go outside and ride in it. Unfortunately she has to be pushed in order for it to work. So that means someone has to go with her everytime. Yesterday I took her for a 45 minute walk before we went over to Grandma's house and she still cried when I took her out of it. Crazy kid! You know what this means? I'm going to have to buy one when I give Gordon's back. We'll try KSL.com.

August 8, 2009: Mom and Dad are in Cedar City taking Auburn to SUU for the start of a new semester. This means the girls are by themselves for the weekend. We invited them up to our house to spend Friday night to Saturday with us. It was fun because we all went to the Hoogle Zoo in the morning on Saturday and had a great time. Jade loved seeing the animals, especially the birds at the bird show and it gave Cierra and Paige something to do.
We were only able to stay a half day because Aaron and I had to be in Bountiful by 6pm for Lisa's (Cade's fiance) live endowment session. Cierra and Paige offered to watch Jade while we went, which was super nice of them. The endowment session was lovely and it was nice to see Cade so happy. They are a really cute couple and we are both really excited for them.
August 10, 2009: We are teaching Jade her body parts by her pointing to them. She doesn't say their names, just points when you ask her where something is. She currently knows where her eyes, nose, mouth, feet, hands, belly-button and head are. We were at Grandma and Grandpa Gunn's house tonight for FHE and while I was getting Jade ready for bed, Grandpa Gunn said, "Jade, I can see your boobies." Jade looks down and points right to her boobies and then reached over to Cierra and grabbed both of hers. Needless to say we aren't saying the word "boobies" anymore.
August 11, 2009: Here's another body part story. So tonight Aaron and I went into Jade's room to check on her while she was sleeping. Aaron whispered to Jade, "Jade, where is your head." and to our surprise (because she is dead asleep) Jade lifts her hand and points to her head with her eyes closed. We were both so surprised that we just burst out laughing. What a funny kid!
August 13, 2009: I just thought I would gloat alittle on how domestic I am becoming. For the past two days, mom and I have been making dinners to freeze. We went to a Relief Society meeting in Mom's stake last Wednesday and a lady taught us how to cook 30 meals that you can freeze in one day. We decided to be ambitious and try it out. So this Wednesday we got together and made up our receipes and our shopping list and spent the rest of the day grocery shopping. Besides making 30 meals for each of our families we decided to get ambitious and make meals for both sets of grandparents. I know, we kind of got carried away but we decided to go big or go home. Today we spent all day cooking. It literally took us 10 hours but at the end we had made 80 seperate meals between the four families. The program that this lady taught us helps to minimize your time and effort so that it makes preparing 30 meals in one day do-able, and actually it really is. Both mom and I were super exhausted but it sure was fun to see the product of our labors. Plus we were able to help out both sets of grandparents. It will be interesting to see if we like the receipes we made. Some of them we had never tried before but just thought sounded good. So we will see. Who knows if we will ever do this again but it was fun to at least try it once. For the past two days, the girls and Dad have been doing a lot of babysitting while Mom and I cook. Cierra is super good with Jade and Jade absolutely worships the ground Cierra walks on. She always follows right behind her and calls her "Ra". It absolutely just makes Cierra glow. It's fun to watch their relationship. It's too bad that Jade won't remember it and that Cierra will go off to college and not be around when Jade will actually start to remember interactions with her.

August 14, 2009: Today was Cade's wedding. We spent all day going from different event to different event. Poor little Jade was so exhausted by the end of the night but to her credit, she did really well and was super cute all day. Cade and Lisa got married in the SLC temple and Jade loved pulling her little toy dog around the grounds while we waited for pictures. It was a hot day outside but during the morning there was enough cloud cover that it made it bearable.
Jade has also got into this habit of whenever someone takes a picture and says "Say cheese!", she holds both hands up to her eyes and says back, "cheese." So you never get a picture of her without her hands up around her face. It can be a little infuriating, especially at an occasion like this.
Cade a Lisa had there luncheon across the street at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It was a nice luncheon and Jade especially liked the decatant dessert of chocolate cake and stawberries.
And finally we ended the night with the reception. Jade looked adorable in her hot pink dress that Roanne made. However, the reception was held at a floral shop and they had tons of water fountains. Could I keep Jade away from the water? Of course not. She spent much of the night playing in the water fountains and lying in the gravel that they had spread around the different areas of plants. She had a great time but at the end of the night she was super dirty. We also discovered that Jade can twirl. They had dancing at the end of the reception and Jade had a blast dancing and twirling on the dance floor. We have the cutest videos of her cutting a rug. Needless to say, Jade slept the moment her head touched the car seat and she didn't wake up until late the next morning. Poor kid was exhausted!
August 15, 2009: We invited the entire Sorensen clan over to our house to have pizzas and play Rock Band. Jade loved playing with the cousins. We have pictures of her trying to sing into the microphone and play the guitar. However, her favorite instrument is the drums. She goes to town on those things and loves it!
August 17, 2009: Jade has discovered the taste of wintergreen Livesavers. They are her favorite. She doesn't get the whole thing cause I'm afraid she will choke on it but I will bite her off a piece and she'll suck on it until it's gone. I do occasional candy checks to make sure she still has it and she thinks it's a fun game to stick out her tongue and show me her candy.
August 19, 2009: Dad Gunn is seriously contemplating buying a used boat for our Lake Powell trip at the end of the month. He has been doing some searching on KSL.com and even taken us out to see a few. We of course, are all cheering him on because we would love to spend Lake Powell on a boat.
August 24, 2009: When it rains, it pours! Today we were playing softball with our co-ed team and Aaron had a great hit out into right field. As he was rounding first base to go to second, he turned to wide and in trying to make up for it, pulled his right calf muscle. He actually went down on both knees it hurt him so bad. He was able to make it to second base without getting tagged out but had to have a substitute runner come and finish the game for him. He couldn't even walk out to the car.
Also we found out that Roanne wasn't at the game because she was having horrible abdominal cramps. She had been having the cramps off and on for a week but I guess tonight they were so bad she couldn't even get out of bed. So after the game, I went with Clair and we got Aaron some crutches from his house and picked up Roanne to take her to the ER. I almost convinced Aaron to go and have his leg xrayed but he decided that he would wait a day or two and see how he did. Besides, we both thought it was probably just muscle and there's not much a doctor can do for that. So I sent him home with Jade and went with Roanne to the ER. Of course they were super busy that night but because I work there I was able to slide her in and get things started. I actually just took care of Roanne, did all of her labs and ordering and got her pain free until a MD could come in and take a look at her.
After about 4 hours of tests and waiting, we found out that she had Sigmoid Diverticulitis, which is an infection in her colon. That was great news because it's easily fixable. You take a weeks worth of antibiotics and pain medications until it goes away. AWESOME! By the time I got home though it was almost 4am. I could have worked that night and gotten paid for how long I was there. But that's okay. I'm glad I was able to help Roanne out. That's part of the reason why I became a nurse, so I can help out the ones I love and know how to take good care of them.
August 26, 2009: Aaron is still having problems putting weight on his leg. His calf is hugely swollen and you can see a bumb where we think his muscle has been torn. Aaron received a referral for a sports medicine place out in Alpine and he's going to go there and see if they can help him out a little. He's a little bummed that this had to happen right before we go to Lake Powell because he enjoys wake boarding.
Good news, Dad Gunn bought a boat today. He found a used boat off of KSL.com that some old guy has taken immaculate care of for years. Unfortunately the boat is a 1986. We were all a little sceptical when he told us how old it was but really it's in such great shape and looks so good that you kind of forget that it's more than 20 years old. Obviously the upholstrey is a little outdated but that can easily be fixed later on. And with how little he paid for it, even if we only use it for several years, he will have gotten his money out of it.
To help Dad Gunn be able to buy the boat, Aaron and I bought his jetskies. It cost us $2,000 but that way they can put the money towards the boat and we can still keep the jetskies in the family. So when we go down to Lake Powell in a couple of weeks we will have both the boat AND jetskies to play on. It should be fun.
August 27, 2009: I took Jade in for her 15 month check up today. She is 21 lbs and only in the 25 percentile in her weight. She is in the 50th percentile for her height and of course in the 75th for her head. The pediatrican asked if she was speaking yet. She said she should have at leasdt 20 words by now. Unfortunately, Jade is a late bloomer in the talking category. She does a lot of pointing and makes a lot of sounds and seems to understand directions. But she doesn't see the need to really say words. She does say words like "dad", "mom", "Huey", "Ra" (for Cierra), "wow", "ball" and "bow". Other than that she seems to be right were she should be developmentally. I know I might be a little partial because she is my first kid but I think she is so advanced for her age.
August 28, 2009: Tonight we had a BBQ at our hose and invited some of Aaron's old high school friends and their children. We had a really good time and actually one of the friends remembered that Aaron's birthday was the next day and she brought a cake to celebrate with. That was really nice and you could tell Aaron was touched that they remembered. We all ate outside on our back patio and the kids had a good time playing in our yard. The only problem is they wanted to climb the tall rock wall and I kept having to tell them to get down. Unfortunately, their parents seemed oblivious to the dangers so it was just me telling them to get down. Other than that we had a pleasant evening and it was fun to catch up. After dinner we invited everyone to stay and play Rock Band. They had such a good time that everyone stayed until past eleven.

After everyone left I asked Aaron if he wanted to open his only birthday present early and he said yes. So I gave him his present and was pleased to see that he was pleasantly surprised at the gift. I got him a GPS unit that I knew he needed and wanted. He seemed to really like it.
August 29, 2009: Today Aaron is officially 31 years old. He had an Elders Quorum Gold Tournament in the morning that he was in charge of. Which if anyone knows Aaron it seems almost comical that they would put him in charge of that when he hates playing golf so much. But I guess he did really well with the other 3 guys on his team and ended up winning tickets to any U of U home game of his choice.
Afterwards we met Clair and Roanne at Rumbi's for lunch for Aaron's birthday. It was nice to visit with them and they ended up giving Aaron $100.
After lunch we headed down to my parents and met them at Utah Lake were we tried out Dad Gunn's new boat for the first time. We all tubed and had a really good time. We didn't get off the lake until it was almost dark. Afterwards we headed back to my parents and finished off the day with a yummy BBQ. It ended up being a really fun day and I hope Aaron enjoyed his birthday as much as I did.
sure do love him and appreciate all the things he does for our little family. He is a great man, very loving and gentle. He is great with Jade and always willing to help me around the house. He is a hard worker and excels at everything he does. He is also very dedicated to the church and his calling. July 2009
July 2, 2009: Tyler Sorensen came home from his mission to Sacramento, California today. We all met at the airport around noon but his flight was slightly delayed. That meant 5 little kids were running around the waiting area with nothing to do for 30 minutes. That's okay, at least they all play well together.
It was fun to watch Tyler interact with this family. He's not a very emotional person so the hugs were brief and not a lot of talking. He was most fascinated with all the little kids around because three of them he had never met before (Jade, Boston and Tylar) and Aniston and Ethan had changed a lot in two years. He looked really good. He had gained a little weight but he could afford to do that. He was still very much in the missionary mode of things but he looked more relaxed and comfortable with himself. There was a new kind of self confidence that I didn't remember him having before the mission. I guess that is what two years of being out on your own and in leadership positions will do to a boy.
After picking Tyler up we all decided to go to lunch at Applebees. While we were there we had a huge rain storm go by that left several places in Salt Lake flooded. One of those places was in our neighborhood at the bottom of the hill. Several homes had inches of water in their basements. Branches and roof shingles were everywhere. Luckily our house is up on a hill and we didn't get much run off from our rock wall. So we were okay, but what a storm.
July 3, 2009: I have officially stopped working the 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I decided that while being pregnant, especially for the first several months, I was going to take it easy so I didn't have a repeat of my last miscarriage. So I have started working the princess shift every Tuesday and Thursday night. I work from 1800-0200. It is a great shift. I get home and to bed before 3am and that means I'm not so tired when Jade gets up around 7am. It's the best shift ever. Why I didn't do this a long time ago I don't know. I still occasionally have to charge or triage but that's managable since I don't have to do it the entire 12 hours.
However, with the holiday coming up I had to put in my share of the hours if I wanted the 24th of July and Labor Day off. So tonight I had to work the entire 12 hours. Kill me know! Plus I charged and basically fixed problems all night. It's amazing how some people just can't seem to work out their own problems by themselves. They need someone to do it for them. By 6am I was so exhausted it was all I could do to drive home.
July 4, 2009: However I didn't get to go to sleep. Instead I picked Jade and Aaron up at the house and we drove to Provo for the 4th of July parade. Austin, Erica, Paige and Cierra were already there with a spot saved since early that morning. The weather was slightly overcast which made the July heat bearable but by 10am the clouds had burned off and it was stiffling hot. That didn't seem to stop Jade any. She loved watching the parade and had a really good time.
After the parade we met at Grandma Bills house and had KFC chicken (like we do every year) with the Bills kids. I guess the Bills are down for the week as their summer vacation.
After lunch we went back to our place and I crashed until 6pm when I had to go back to work for another 12 hour shift. It was so busy that I stayed the entire 12 hours. Boy was I tired.
I guess Jade was able to do fireworks over at the Sorensen's house. She was slightly ornry the entire time because she was off her schedule a bit. So she didn't really enjoy the fireworks as much as she probably would have had she had a good nap.
July 8, 2009: Happy Birthday to Auburn! It was her 19th birthday today and we celebrated by taking her to get her hair cut. Everyone except for Jade and I seemed to have plans that day, including Auburn who had to work, so it wasn't very exciting. However, after she got her hair done, all of us girls met up and took Auburn to lunch at Costa Vida. During lunch, Auburn made some off hand comment about how she has never had a birthday cake for her birthday and that her birthday seems to always get forgotten. So to prove her wrong, I guess, we decided to surprise her at her work with a birthday cake that she could share with everyone. It worked out great because no one knew it was her birthday at work so they were slightly embarrassed for forgetting and so were super accomidating. After she got off of work we took her to Italian Village for dinner. I think it was a nice day for her and I think secretly she enjoyed the embarrassment of showing up at her work with a cake.
As a side note, Auburn has had several birthday cakes on her birthday, including several birthday parties. The rest we celebrated while on vacation. I looked at the scrapbooks and have proof.
June 9, 2009: Aaron is on a all men's softball team with his brothers. Jen is the captain. They are playing really well and should be playing on a different league, the other teams don't really stand a chance. But it's fun to watch cause they just cream them all.
With all of the brothers playing ball that means all the cousins come to the ballfield. This is fine because they have a really good time hanging out together. However, today I somehow got the "opportunity" to watch all the cousins. To keep them all together I pulled out some street chalk and we drew pictures on the sidewalk. I drew a picture of Ethan, very lifelike, and he loved it so much he wanted to show his parents. So after the game I had Ethan lie next to the drawing and had Jen and Jeremy try to tell which one was the real Ethan. They stood there for a minute acting like they were puzzled and couldn't figure it out. Finally, Ethan sneaks his hand up to his chest and whispered, "it's me...I'm the real Ethan." It was so funny, I had to take a picture.
July 10, 2009: Today was the Xango summer party at Seven Peaks. We decided to take Jade with us and then have Auburn come and pick her up later on in the day so she could go to bed. Jade seemed to really have a good time. We slathered her in sunscreen and made sure she had waterwings and a lifejacket on the entire time and then let her run wild. She loved it. She even went down several large water slides on the tubes. She would hold both of my hands really tight but once we were down she would clap her hands and act all excited to go again.
Austin was picked for their famous prize drawing. They chose 27 people dive into the wave pool and fish out a Xango ball with a letter on it. Then they handed out the prizes according to the letter they had. Austin won $300 and he was so excited. I have a fun video of the entire event.
July 11, 2009: We took Jade to an Orem Owls AA Baseball game tonight with my family. She seemed to like it for a while but eventually got bored. Grandpa Gunn took her for walks around the stadium but that didn't last very long. Finally, the only thing that seemed to keep her entertained was feeding Aaron sunflower seeds. I think Aaron ate a whole bag before the game was over. Thanks for taking one for the team Aaron.
July 12, 2009: Today was Grandpa Gunn's 53rd birthday. We had his Sunday birthday dinner with the grandparents and then took him around town on a GPS scavenger hunt. We all pooled our money together again to buy him a GPS that he has wanted for a while.
July 13, 2009: Jade has become very mommy dependant lately. I don't know why either seen as how she has been around both Aaron's and my family a lot these last few weeks. I shouldn't be complaining because she actually will say "Ma" now but she does it in a whinny voice and then wants me to pick her up. I'm the only one that she will go to right now and if I walk out the door without her she totally flips out. I hope this phase ends fast cause it's exhausting.
July 14, 2009: I guess while I was at work Jade went over to Boobi Loosli's house (our neighbors to the west of us) to play with McKay and found an orange play necklace. She put it on and wouldn't take it off. I guess Boobi let her take it home and she slept with it on.
July 15, 2009: Clair invited Aaron and I to a previewing of the new Harry Potter 6 movie down in Orem. I guess he was able to get everyone tickets and we went and had free popcorn and shirts.
Also, Jade continues to wear the necklace. She won't take it off. She loves it!
July 16, 2009: Jade is still wearing the necklace. She also likes to give high fives. She's getting really good at it. She also likes to give "bones" and does it to everyone she sees.
July 17, 2009: I found out that Jade's top and bottom molars on her left side are coming in. I hope she doesn't get sick from it, she usually runs a low grade fever and gets a runny nose for a couple of days. But hopefully she won't this time. She hasn't been acting like she is sick. I just hope it stays that way because we are on our way to California tomorrow and I would hate for her to be sick while we were there.
July 18, 2009: Jade, Aaron and I boarded a 10am Delta flight for California today. It was Jade's first time flying. We didn't have to buy her a ticket because she is under 2 yo but that also means she didn't get a seat, she would have to sit on our laps the entire way there. However, we lucked out and they put us on an isle with an empty seat and she sat next to the window or between us the entire flight. She did really well the entire time. I was so proud of her.
Once we got off the plane and to the car rental place it was way past lunch and Jade was starting to get a little fussy. Then to top everything off, we had to wait in line for 2 hours while we waited for a car to be returned. I guess because of a special weekend promotion they had overbooked the cars and so people were having to wait for the cars to be returned first before they could rent one. It really was annoying. Poor Jade had to stand out in the sun for most of those two hours without food or drink. I felt so bad but we weren't in a position to be able to get her anything. We got the car and on the road and within two minutes Jade was asleep.
We drove to the hotel and got some dinner, by then Jade was up from her nap and we fed her on our way to Disneyland. We got there about 7pm and rode on about 6-7 rides before the park closed. It seems like not many rides, but it was just right. Jade loved the park and all of the people but she didn't really understand the concept of standing in line, especially at the Dumbo ride. She really wanted to ride that ride so bad that she got a little cranky having to stand in line for twenty minutes. The other ride she really enjoyed was the Merry-go-round. She loved it and we rode it several times in a row.
We left the park at midnight and Jade was exhausted. She actually feel asleep in her stroller, which she never does...ever! On the way home we got caught in construction traffic and our hour long drive turned into two hours. I also got really nauseated while in the car and actually barfed in a chip bag we had in the car. That's the first time I've been sick with this pregancy. I get nauseated if I don't eat every two hours or if I get super tired but this is the first time I threw up. With Jade I vomited like clock work, every evening for about 8 straight weeks. It sucked but at least after barfing I would feel better. This pregnancy I just get really nauseated and nothing short of taking a nap or eating something will take it away.
July 19, 2009: Today is Sunday and we started early by going to church. It is always fun to go to church outside of Utah and see how the church is the exact same no matter where you go. This branch was part ASL and it was interesting to watch the interpreters. The branch was small and slightly older so Jade was the youngest one there. We had several people come up to us and tell us how cute and well behaved she was. She really is, we don't really ever have lots of problems with her while in church, just as long as she has a snack, her pacifier and books she does pretty well.
After church we decided to take a drive down to Malibu and then drive the PCH until we were tired of driving. Jade took a nap most of the way down there and then once on the PCH we decided to stop off at a beach and let Jade play in the sand. We found a fun local beach outside of Malibu and hiked down to the water. It was a beautiful beach and Jade seemed to love the sand and water. We actually let her get in the water even though she didn't have a swimsuit. We just stripped her down to her diaper and she played for a good hour in the sand and waves.
The tide started to come and and we left. I unfortunately wasn't prepared for Jade to be all sandy and wet. So I had to improvise cleaning her up using wet wipes, napkins and an extra shirt we had in the trunk. It wasn't very fun, especially having to clean out all of the cracks and crevices. But we succeeded in getting her clean and decided to stop off at Duke's and have expensive but delicious fish for dinner. Duke's is right on Malibu beach and we had a great view of the ocean. The last time we were here we came with two of Aaron's coworkers Brad and Jeff and we decided that it was one of our favorite places to have fish. It is sooo good!
After dinner we drove home and Jade fell asleep in the car. However we had a great evening and ended it by going to bed early. We were exhausted!
July 20, 2009: Jade and I slept in til really late in the morning. We were exhausted after yesterday's activites. We got up and decided to head out to Venice Beach for the day and play at the beach. We got there and had lunch from a street vendor there on the boardwalk. We then headed out to the beach and spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the sand and water. Jade loved the water and didn't hesitate to go out and play in the waves. The waves weren't as big as yesterday's at Malibu and so weren't as frightening to her. I put on her waterwings, sunscreen and ginger hat and out she went.
There was a little hispanic about 6-7 years old sitting next to us that Jade decided to make friends with. She took over some of her beach toys and she and the little girl made a "sandcastle" together. It was really cute.
After a long afternoon in the sun, we headed back to the hotel to meet Aaron for dinner. We decided to go to Dodger's game that night and ended up getting really cheap seats out in left field behind their famous outfielder Manny Ramirez. We ate Dodger dogs, nachos, peanuts and cotton candy...we basically ate until we were sick, or was it plain broke? While Aaron was off getting us more junk food to eat, a homerun ball was hit out to us by Mannie. I seriously thought it was coming right for us. I was holding Jade and for a few seconds I debated what to do if the ball really came right to me. How was I going to catch it while holding Jade. Luckily, the ball bounced right behind us and up into the other section. Needless to say, Aaron wasn't very happy to hear that he had missed catching a homerun ball because he was buying peanuts.
The Dodgers ended up winning the game but we only stayed until the top the 8th inning. Jade was starting to get tired and that meant whinny. As we were walking out we realized that we had forgotten were we had parked the car. So we spent the next 20 minutes pushing the alarm button on our rental car key ring until we found the car. So a slight damper to our evening but all in all we had a really fun day,
July 21, 2009: All of us got up early, Aaron to work and Jade and I off to play. I decided to take us to the Fashion District in downtown LA and go shopping. Cindy Gunn told us about this great shoe dive that sold cute $6 shoes. So I decided that we would stop there first. After an hour of complete chaos, I walked out of there with 6 pairs of shoes for less than $40. What a great store. After buying shoes I loaded Jade in the stroller and we walked down the street to the district and shopped for the next 3 hours. We only stopped off at McDonald's to grab some lunch and then it was more shopping. I don't think I really bought anything except for a watch and cute black church shoes for Jade. Other than that we just window shopped. But it sure was fun. Jade did really well especially because it was so hot outside. We could have continued to shop but Jade was starting to look a little pink and I thought I better get her out of the heat. So we headed back to pick up Aaron and go to the airport. On the way I bought a Arby's smoothie and Jade seriously drank about half of it. The poor thing was just hot and thirsty.
That night we boarded a flight for home. Jade loved runny up and down the ramp while waiting to load our plane. She was a little cranky during the flight only because it was past her bedtime and she was tired. You would think she would just fall asleep but no. Too much to see and do. So instead she feed Aaron peanuts the entire way home. It kept her occupied and quiet and for that we were grateful.
It was a great trip and it was fun to take Jade with us. There were lots of first for her and it was fun to document those firsts. I know she won't remember any of it but it was fun for Aaron and I to experience. Jade really is a great little girl and a lot of fun to be with.
July 22, 2009: Today I washed clothes and got ready to leave again. This time we are off to Beaver for the 24th of July festivities. We decided to spend the night at my parent's house so that we didn't have to get up so early in the morning to head out to Yuba. As tradition has it, every 24th of July we always go to the parade and either play at Yuba Lake for a day on our way down to Beaver or on our way back home. This time, the way the weekend worked out we decided to go to Yuba first and then head down to Beaver. So we needed to get up, loaded and on the road pretty early so we could get on the lake as soon as possible.
So back to getting ready...we decided to to spend the night and so after packing our car we headed down to Orem. It was around midnight and we were both exhausted from a long day working and getting ready, plus we were still recouping from our trip to California. Aaron tried to get on the freeway at 7200 South but it was closed. So we drove down State Street to 90000 South only to find out that that freeway entrance was closed. We were headed down to 106000 South when Aaron came to a yellow light. He was trying to decide which road to take and didn't realize that a cop was sitting at the opposite intersection and caught Aaron running a red light. Off course, he pulled us over. Luckily, Aaron was so distraught that he pleaded for mercy and the police officer gave us only a warning. I think it helped that Aaron told him why he had run the red light and asked the police officer if he knew of a freeway entrance that was open so we could get to Orem. The police officer took a long time to get back to us but finally said that the 123000 South was the only one open. That they had closed the entire cooridor up and down the Salt Lake Valley and only one entrance was open. The officer took pity on us and let us go with a warning. Man we were so thankful. That's the last thing we needed, a ticket on our insurance and a huge fine to pay.
Needless to say we finally got to my parent's around 1:30am and were dead tired. But to make it worse my dad decided to load Aaron's truck that night. So poor Aaron went out with my dad and loaded the truck for another hour. He was so tired and ornry by the time he got to bed. Poor dude!
July 23, 2009: Woke up early this morning and headed off to Yuba Lake. The weather was perfect but the water was super low. That surprised us especially with as much rain as we got this spring. But the water level was the lowest we have ever seen it. We parked in our usual spot and set up camp. Auburn and Jamison went with us along with Austin and Erica. So there were a lot of us on the beach. We basically played all day and rotated using the jet skies. Jade did really well. She loved playing with her sand toys on the edge of the water. She didn't really get super wet but would make sure her feet were touching the water at all times. She also was able to take a nap in the truck, which was nice for all of us. We left the lake pretty late which meant hamburgers at Wendy's for dinner on our way up Beaver Canyon. My mom was able to book a cabin up Beaver Canyon for the weekend. It was a nice place to stay however it was a long drive up the canyon, especially for as late and as tired as we were coming from Yuba Lake. On the way up the canyon we ran into lots of wild life, including a large elk that was standing at the edge of the road. It actually was a little scary to see him standing there as big as he was. He could have taken out our truck if he decided to run across the road. We finally got to our cabin though after having to drive 5 mph so as not to hit all the wildlife. We got in after midnight and then had to unload the cars and set up all the beds. I think we all finally collapsed into bed around 2:30am. Whoa, what a long day!
Julyt 24, 2009: We had to get up early again today to make the 9am parade on time. We sat across the street from the church in the sun but lucked out because most of the morning the sun was covered with clouds. It burned off though towards the end which made it get pretty hot, but it was bearable. Jade learned how to grab the candy that was tossed out into the street and she actually became really good at it.
After the parade we went over to the park and ran in the foot races. Unfortunately we missed the footraces for Jade's age. We think she would have done pretty well. But everyone else was able to race. I even raced, which I shouldn't have because I looked like a galloping fat cow. But afterwards I also got really sick. I don't know if it was the sun, running or the combination of both but once we got in the truck I started to dry heave. Poor Erica was in the back seat and I think she almost dry heaved with me.
After the foot races we met up the the rest of the Gunn clan and had a pot luck lunch at the ballpark. Then afterwards we took Grandpa Gunn up the canyon to our cabin to hang out for a while. Everyone took a nap including Grandpa, we were so exhausted from the heat.
After our naps we headed back down the canyon for mexican dinner at Can Cun and then over to the ballpark to watch the fireworks. Jade really liked that.
As we were headed back up the canyon, I was super tired to the point of being silly and I kept saying stupid things that I really couldn't control. For instance I said that the truck in front of us was driving weird and that he was being a "turkey face". Everyone thought that was funny. Also I was trying to say how much I liked the fireworks this year because I thought they were really different from last year and instead I said "those fireworks weren't just bright, they were REALLY bright." I guess the way I said it made me sound really crazy. They were all laughing at me. I blame it on exhaustion because I quickly fell asleep up the canyon.
July 25, 2009: Today we went to Minersville to try jetskiing at a different location. Let me sum up the experience...it sucked! The day dawned with rain on the horizon however it didn't really rain until later in the day. By the time we got to the lake it was close to lunch time. When Aaron and I took out the jetskis we ran into some thick weeds and got stuck. Trying to unstick ourselves took us a good hour. By the time we got back, lunch was over, I had a roaring headache and it was getting ready to rain. People took some other runs on the jetskies but because the lake was so small and low that really we couldn't venture out that far or do anything with them. So we all just kind of hung around camp. Finally, the rain started and we had to pack up and go home. We were only on the lake for a couple of hours and those hours weren't the best. We all voted not to come back ever again. My vote was the loudest I think.
That night the funniest thing happened. We were all hanging out on the deck around the propane campfire we had brought with us when a bat flew into the cabin. To make a long story short we found out that dad screams like a girl, that he is super afraid of bats, that bats actually fly better in the dark than with the lights on and that "bats go for the hair". We luckily have it all on film for posterity to see. I'm glad to say that my brave husband was very calm and caught the bat for us all. I don't know what we would have done without him because Dad and Austin were puddles of estrogen.
July 26, 2009: Today was Sunday and Dad was super ornry. But that is pretty usual for him on a trip. We aren't quite sure why, although we have our own opinions on the matter, but it seems like everytime we go on a trip were the last day is usually a Sunday, he is ornry. Well today was no exception, except for that he was SUPER ornry so much so that he was hard to be around. On our way down the canyon for the last time we stopped at the edge of the road and threw rocks in the river. Jade loved that idea. She would take huge handfulls of gravel and toss it in over and over again. She never tired of it and we were there for a good half an hour.
Also on the way down the canyon we were using walkie talkies to communicate between cars and mom gets on and says "look over your shoulder at that beautiful view." Now you need to understand that immediately to our right was just mountain wall but to our left there was a steep cliff that overlooked the valley. The view was really spectacular but Austin in all of his glory responds back, "which shoulder?" My mom realized that she was being made fun of but replies back in an annoyed voice, "your left." to which Austin responded, "oh, yeah, that is a pretty view." It was the funniest thing I had heard in a long time. I think I laughed the entire way down the canyon and I'm still chuckling even while I write this. It's so funny that I think I will make a mental note to tell this at my mother's funeral. I'll add it to one of the many funny tales I have up my sleeve to tell.
Also on the way home we stopped off at a hot springs that Meredith Gunn told us about. It's just off the freeway in Meadow, Utah. It took us a while to find it only because we didn't go far enough down the road but once we did we were amazed at how clean and warm it really was. It's located on someone's private property but they have opened it up to the public as long as it is kept clean and no nudity. Jade wanted to get in really bad so I stripped her down to her diaper and let her sit at the edge. She stayed playing there until we were all ready to go. Then on the way back, I didn't have an extra diaper with me, only one in the car. So she had to waddle back with this ten pound diaper hanging below her knees. I ended up taking off the diaper and letting her walk back to the car in the buff. She was so enthralled with the idea of being completely naked that she kept stopping to inspect her private areas. I think that was the first time her privates had ever felt the sun or wind on them. She though it was awesome. We ended up renaming the hot springs Waddle Springs after Jade. It was a great way to end a very fun trip.
It was fun to watch Tyler interact with this family. He's not a very emotional person so the hugs were brief and not a lot of talking. He was most fascinated with all the little kids around because three of them he had never met before (Jade, Boston and Tylar) and Aniston and Ethan had changed a lot in two years. He looked really good. He had gained a little weight but he could afford to do that. He was still very much in the missionary mode of things but he looked more relaxed and comfortable with himself. There was a new kind of self confidence that I didn't remember him having before the mission. I guess that is what two years of being out on your own and in leadership positions will do to a boy.
After picking Tyler up we all decided to go to lunch at Applebees. While we were there we had a huge rain storm go by that left several places in Salt Lake flooded. One of those places was in our neighborhood at the bottom of the hill. Several homes had inches of water in their basements. Branches and roof shingles were everywhere. Luckily our house is up on a hill and we didn't get much run off from our rock wall. So we were okay, but what a storm.
July 3, 2009: I have officially stopped working the 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I decided that while being pregnant, especially for the first several months, I was going to take it easy so I didn't have a repeat of my last miscarriage. So I have started working the princess shift every Tuesday and Thursday night. I work from 1800-0200. It is a great shift. I get home and to bed before 3am and that means I'm not so tired when Jade gets up around 7am. It's the best shift ever. Why I didn't do this a long time ago I don't know. I still occasionally have to charge or triage but that's managable since I don't have to do it the entire 12 hours.
However, with the holiday coming up I had to put in my share of the hours if I wanted the 24th of July and Labor Day off. So tonight I had to work the entire 12 hours. Kill me know! Plus I charged and basically fixed problems all night. It's amazing how some people just can't seem to work out their own problems by themselves. They need someone to do it for them. By 6am I was so exhausted it was all I could do to drive home.
July 4, 2009: However I didn't get to go to sleep. Instead I picked Jade and Aaron up at the house and we drove to Provo for the 4th of July parade. Austin, Erica, Paige and Cierra were already there with a spot saved since early that morning. The weather was slightly overcast which made the July heat bearable but by 10am the clouds had burned off and it was stiffling hot. That didn't seem to stop Jade any. She loved watching the parade and had a really good time.
After the parade we met at Grandma Bills house and had KFC chicken (like we do every year) with the Bills kids. I guess the Bills are down for the week as their summer vacation.
After lunch we went back to our place and I crashed until 6pm when I had to go back to work for another 12 hour shift. It was so busy that I stayed the entire 12 hours. Boy was I tired.
I guess Jade was able to do fireworks over at the Sorensen's house. She was slightly ornry the entire time because she was off her schedule a bit. So she didn't really enjoy the fireworks as much as she probably would have had she had a good nap.
July 8, 2009: Happy Birthday to Auburn! It was her 19th birthday today and we celebrated by taking her to get her hair cut. Everyone except for Jade and I seemed to have plans that day, including Auburn who had to work, so it wasn't very exciting. However, after she got her hair done, all of us girls met up and took Auburn to lunch at Costa Vida. During lunch, Auburn made some off hand comment about how she has never had a birthday cake for her birthday and that her birthday seems to always get forgotten. So to prove her wrong, I guess, we decided to surprise her at her work with a birthday cake that she could share with everyone. It worked out great because no one knew it was her birthday at work so they were slightly embarrassed for forgetting and so were super accomidating. After she got off of work we took her to Italian Village for dinner. I think it was a nice day for her and I think secretly she enjoyed the embarrassment of showing up at her work with a cake.
As a side note, Auburn has had several birthday cakes on her birthday, including several birthday parties. The rest we celebrated while on vacation. I looked at the scrapbooks and have proof.
June 9, 2009: Aaron is on a all men's softball team with his brothers. Jen is the captain. They are playing really well and should be playing on a different league, the other teams don't really stand a chance. But it's fun to watch cause they just cream them all.
With all of the brothers playing ball that means all the cousins come to the ballfield. This is fine because they have a really good time hanging out together. However, today I somehow got the "opportunity" to watch all the cousins. To keep them all together I pulled out some street chalk and we drew pictures on the sidewalk. I drew a picture of Ethan, very lifelike, and he loved it so much he wanted to show his parents. So after the game I had Ethan lie next to the drawing and had Jen and Jeremy try to tell which one was the real Ethan. They stood there for a minute acting like they were puzzled and couldn't figure it out. Finally, Ethan sneaks his hand up to his chest and whispered, "it's me...I'm the real Ethan." It was so funny, I had to take a picture.
July 10, 2009: Today was the Xango summer party at Seven Peaks. We decided to take Jade with us and then have Auburn come and pick her up later on in the day so she could go to bed. Jade seemed to really have a good time. We slathered her in sunscreen and made sure she had waterwings and a lifejacket on the entire time and then let her run wild. She loved it. She even went down several large water slides on the tubes. She would hold both of my hands really tight but once we were down she would clap her hands and act all excited to go again.
Austin was picked for their famous prize drawing. They chose 27 people dive into the wave pool and fish out a Xango ball with a letter on it. Then they handed out the prizes according to the letter they had. Austin won $300 and he was so excited. I have a fun video of the entire event.
July 11, 2009: We took Jade to an Orem Owls AA Baseball game tonight with my family. She seemed to like it for a while but eventually got bored. Grandpa Gunn took her for walks around the stadium but that didn't last very long. Finally, the only thing that seemed to keep her entertained was feeding Aaron sunflower seeds. I think Aaron ate a whole bag before the game was over. Thanks for taking one for the team Aaron.
July 12, 2009: Today was Grandpa Gunn's 53rd birthday. We had his Sunday birthday dinner with the grandparents and then took him around town on a GPS scavenger hunt. We all pooled our money together again to buy him a GPS that he has wanted for a while.
July 13, 2009: Jade has become very mommy dependant lately. I don't know why either seen as how she has been around both Aaron's and my family a lot these last few weeks. I shouldn't be complaining because she actually will say "Ma" now but she does it in a whinny voice and then wants me to pick her up. I'm the only one that she will go to right now and if I walk out the door without her she totally flips out. I hope this phase ends fast cause it's exhausting.
July 14, 2009: I guess while I was at work Jade went over to Boobi Loosli's house (our neighbors to the west of us) to play with McKay and found an orange play necklace. She put it on and wouldn't take it off. I guess Boobi let her take it home and she slept with it on.
July 15, 2009: Clair invited Aaron and I to a previewing of the new Harry Potter 6 movie down in Orem. I guess he was able to get everyone tickets and we went and had free popcorn and shirts.
Also, Jade continues to wear the necklace. She won't take it off. She loves it!
July 16, 2009: Jade is still wearing the necklace. She also likes to give high fives. She's getting really good at it. She also likes to give "bones" and does it to everyone she sees.
July 17, 2009: I found out that Jade's top and bottom molars on her left side are coming in. I hope she doesn't get sick from it, she usually runs a low grade fever and gets a runny nose for a couple of days. But hopefully she won't this time. She hasn't been acting like she is sick. I just hope it stays that way because we are on our way to California tomorrow and I would hate for her to be sick while we were there.
July 18, 2009: Jade, Aaron and I boarded a 10am Delta flight for California today. It was Jade's first time flying. We didn't have to buy her a ticket because she is under 2 yo but that also means she didn't get a seat, she would have to sit on our laps the entire way there. However, we lucked out and they put us on an isle with an empty seat and she sat next to the window or between us the entire flight. She did really well the entire time. I was so proud of her.
Once we got off the plane and to the car rental place it was way past lunch and Jade was starting to get a little fussy. Then to top everything off, we had to wait in line for 2 hours while we waited for a car to be returned. I guess because of a special weekend promotion they had overbooked the cars and so people were having to wait for the cars to be returned first before they could rent one. It really was annoying. Poor Jade had to stand out in the sun for most of those two hours without food or drink. I felt so bad but we weren't in a position to be able to get her anything. We got the car and on the road and within two minutes Jade was asleep.
We drove to the hotel and got some dinner, by then Jade was up from her nap and we fed her on our way to Disneyland. We got there about 7pm and rode on about 6-7 rides before the park closed. It seems like not many rides, but it was just right. Jade loved the park and all of the people but she didn't really understand the concept of standing in line, especially at the Dumbo ride. She really wanted to ride that ride so bad that she got a little cranky having to stand in line for twenty minutes. The other ride she really enjoyed was the Merry-go-round. She loved it and we rode it several times in a row.
We left the park at midnight and Jade was exhausted. She actually feel asleep in her stroller, which she never does...ever! On the way home we got caught in construction traffic and our hour long drive turned into two hours. I also got really nauseated while in the car and actually barfed in a chip bag we had in the car. That's the first time I've been sick with this pregancy. I get nauseated if I don't eat every two hours or if I get super tired but this is the first time I threw up. With Jade I vomited like clock work, every evening for about 8 straight weeks. It sucked but at least after barfing I would feel better. This pregnancy I just get really nauseated and nothing short of taking a nap or eating something will take it away.
July 19, 2009: Today is Sunday and we started early by going to church. It is always fun to go to church outside of Utah and see how the church is the exact same no matter where you go. This branch was part ASL and it was interesting to watch the interpreters. The branch was small and slightly older so Jade was the youngest one there. We had several people come up to us and tell us how cute and well behaved she was. She really is, we don't really ever have lots of problems with her while in church, just as long as she has a snack, her pacifier and books she does pretty well.
After church we decided to take a drive down to Malibu and then drive the PCH until we were tired of driving. Jade took a nap most of the way down there and then once on the PCH we decided to stop off at a beach and let Jade play in the sand. We found a fun local beach outside of Malibu and hiked down to the water. It was a beautiful beach and Jade seemed to love the sand and water. We actually let her get in the water even though she didn't have a swimsuit. We just stripped her down to her diaper and she played for a good hour in the sand and waves.
The tide started to come and and we left. I unfortunately wasn't prepared for Jade to be all sandy and wet. So I had to improvise cleaning her up using wet wipes, napkins and an extra shirt we had in the trunk. It wasn't very fun, especially having to clean out all of the cracks and crevices. But we succeeded in getting her clean and decided to stop off at Duke's and have expensive but delicious fish for dinner. Duke's is right on Malibu beach and we had a great view of the ocean. The last time we were here we came with two of Aaron's coworkers Brad and Jeff and we decided that it was one of our favorite places to have fish. It is sooo good!
After dinner we drove home and Jade fell asleep in the car. However we had a great evening and ended it by going to bed early. We were exhausted!
July 20, 2009: Jade and I slept in til really late in the morning. We were exhausted after yesterday's activites. We got up and decided to head out to Venice Beach for the day and play at the beach. We got there and had lunch from a street vendor there on the boardwalk. We then headed out to the beach and spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the sand and water. Jade loved the water and didn't hesitate to go out and play in the waves. The waves weren't as big as yesterday's at Malibu and so weren't as frightening to her. I put on her waterwings, sunscreen and ginger hat and out she went.
There was a little hispanic about 6-7 years old sitting next to us that Jade decided to make friends with. She took over some of her beach toys and she and the little girl made a "sandcastle" together. It was really cute.
After a long afternoon in the sun, we headed back to the hotel to meet Aaron for dinner. We decided to go to Dodger's game that night and ended up getting really cheap seats out in left field behind their famous outfielder Manny Ramirez. We ate Dodger dogs, nachos, peanuts and cotton candy...we basically ate until we were sick, or was it plain broke? While Aaron was off getting us more junk food to eat, a homerun ball was hit out to us by Mannie. I seriously thought it was coming right for us. I was holding Jade and for a few seconds I debated what to do if the ball really came right to me. How was I going to catch it while holding Jade. Luckily, the ball bounced right behind us and up into the other section. Needless to say, Aaron wasn't very happy to hear that he had missed catching a homerun ball because he was buying peanuts.
The Dodgers ended up winning the game but we only stayed until the top the 8th inning. Jade was starting to get tired and that meant whinny. As we were walking out we realized that we had forgotten were we had parked the car. So we spent the next 20 minutes pushing the alarm button on our rental car key ring until we found the car. So a slight damper to our evening but all in all we had a really fun day,
July 21, 2009: All of us got up early, Aaron to work and Jade and I off to play. I decided to take us to the Fashion District in downtown LA and go shopping. Cindy Gunn told us about this great shoe dive that sold cute $6 shoes. So I decided that we would stop there first. After an hour of complete chaos, I walked out of there with 6 pairs of shoes for less than $40. What a great store. After buying shoes I loaded Jade in the stroller and we walked down the street to the district and shopped for the next 3 hours. We only stopped off at McDonald's to grab some lunch and then it was more shopping. I don't think I really bought anything except for a watch and cute black church shoes for Jade. Other than that we just window shopped. But it sure was fun. Jade did really well especially because it was so hot outside. We could have continued to shop but Jade was starting to look a little pink and I thought I better get her out of the heat. So we headed back to pick up Aaron and go to the airport. On the way I bought a Arby's smoothie and Jade seriously drank about half of it. The poor thing was just hot and thirsty.
That night we boarded a flight for home. Jade loved runny up and down the ramp while waiting to load our plane. She was a little cranky during the flight only because it was past her bedtime and she was tired. You would think she would just fall asleep but no. Too much to see and do. So instead she feed Aaron peanuts the entire way home. It kept her occupied and quiet and for that we were grateful.

I don't know if it was the sun, running or the combination of both but once we got in the truck I started to dry heave. Poor Erica was in the back seat and I think she almost dry heaved with me.
After the foot races we met up the the rest of the Gunn clan and had a pot luck lunch at the ballpark. Then afterwards we took Grandpa Gunn up the canyon to our cabin to hang out for a while. Everyone took a nap including Grandpa, we were so exhausted from the heat.
After our naps we headed back down the canyon for mexican dinner at Can Cun and then over to the ballpark to watch the fireworks. Jade really liked that.
As we were headed back up the canyon, I was super tired to the point of being silly and I kept saying stupid things that I really couldn't control. For instance I said that the truck in front of us was driving weird and that he was being a "turkey face". Everyone thought that was funny. Also I was trying to say how much I liked the fireworks this year because I thought they were really different from last year and instead I said "those fireworks weren't just bright, they were REALLY bright." I guess the way I said it made me sound really crazy. They were all laughing at me. I blame it on exhaustion because I quickly fell asleep up the canyon.
July 25, 2009: Today we went to Minersville to try jetskiing at a different location. Let me sum up the experience...it sucked! The day dawned with rain on the horizon however it didn't really rain until later in the day. By the time we got to the lake it was close to lunch time. When Aaron and I took out the jetskis we ran into some thick weeds and got stuck. Trying to unstick ourselves took us a good hour. By the time we got back, lunch was over, I had a roaring headache and it was getting ready to rain. People took some other runs on the jetskies but because the lake was so small and low that really we couldn't venture out that far or do anything with them. So we all just kind of hung around camp. Finally, the rain started and we had to pack up and go home. We were only on the lake for a couple of hours and those hours weren't the best. We all voted not to come back ever again. My vote was the loudest I think.
That night the funniest thing happened. We were all hanging out on the deck around the propane campfire we had brought with us when a bat flew into the cabin. To make a long story short we found out that dad screams like a girl, that he is super afraid of bats, that bats actually fly better in the dark than with the lights on and that "bats go for the hair". We luckily have it all on film for posterity to see. I'm glad to say that my brave husband was very calm and caught the bat for us all. I don't know what we would have done without him because Dad and Austin were puddles of estrogen.
July 26, 2009: Today was Sunday and Dad was super ornry. But that is pretty usual for him on a trip. We aren't quite sure why, although we have our own opinions on the matter, but it seems like everytime we go on a trip were the last day is usually a Sunday, he is ornry. Well today was no exception, except for that he was SUPER ornry so much so that he was hard to be around. On our way down the canyon for the last time we stopped at the edge of the road and threw rocks in the river. Jade loved that idea. She would take huge handfulls of gravel and toss it in over and over again. She never tired of it and we were there for a good half an hour.
Also on the way down the canyon we were using walkie talkies to communicate between cars and mom gets on and says "look over your shoulder at that beautiful view." Now you need to understand that immediately to our right was just mountain wall but to our left there was a steep cliff that overlooked the valley. The view was really spectacular but Austin in all of his glory responds back, "which shoulder?" My mom realized that she was being made fun of but replies back in an annoyed voice, "your left." to which Austin responded, "oh, yeah, that is a pretty view." It was the funniest thing I had heard in a long time. I think I laughed the entire way down the canyon and I'm still chuckling even while I write this. It's so funny that I think I will make a mental note to tell this at my mother's funeral. I'll add it to one of the many funny tales I have up my sleeve to tell.
Also on the way home we stopped off at a hot springs that Meredith Gunn told us about. It's just off the freeway in Meadow, Utah. It took us a while to find it only because we didn't go far enough down the road but once we did we were amazed at how clean and warm it really was. It's located on someone's private property but they have opened it up to the public as long as it is kept clean and no nudity. Jade wanted to get in really bad so I stripped her down to her diaper and let her sit at the edge. She stayed playing there until we were all ready to go. Then on the way back, I didn't have an extra diaper with me, only one in the car. So she had to waddle back with this ten pound diaper hanging below her knees. I ended up taking off the diaper and letting her walk back to the car in the buff. She was so enthralled with the idea of being completely naked that she kept stopping to inspect her private areas. I think that was the first time her privates had ever felt the sun or wind on them. She though it was awesome. We ended up renaming the hot springs Waddle Springs after Jade. It was a great way to end a very fun trip.

June 1, 2009: Austin's birthday was today. He is a whopping 25 years old. He's getting to be soooo old (but I guess that would make me three years older :)) I wanted to do something nice for him today because I was feeling bad for him. He's been going through some things with his girlfriend and with the padres and I just wanted to make sure this day was special for him. So I rounded up the family members and we surprised him at his work with a small cake, balloons and a gift card. We actually lucked out because he was just getting ready to leave when we pulled up. Any later and we would have missed him. I think he was surprised and happy that we had made an effort to celebrate his birthday. We tried to make plans to take him to dinner that night but he already had plans with his girlfriend. So instead my family came to my softball game, watched us lose miserably and then we all went to The Porcupine, up Little Cottonwood Canyon, and had great chicken and black bean nachos.

June 2, 2009: I thought I would add that little Jaderbug can officially use a fork by herself. She especially likes to use the fork with macaroni and cheese. That seems to be her favorite food right now. She also seems to eat better if she can navigate the fork by herself. It makes for a messy experience but in the end she always eats more. So as long as she has a bib, I'm okay with her using the fork by herself.
June 4, 2009: We met with our financial advisor Garen Winn and made some changes in our live insurance policy. We also made up a will in case anything happens to Aaron or I. We have down three seperate families to take Jade and any future children should something happen to us. We asked Jen and Jeremy if they would be the primary guardians and then added my parents and Aaron's parents to the list. It was kind of strange having to write out a will. I just feel too young to be doing something so responsible. But I guess when you have dependents, you have to make sure they are taken care of. If something were to happen though, Jade would be living the high life at a whopping 3 million dollars. Lucky kid! :)
June 5, 2009:

June 6, 2009: Jade has learned to make a surprised face whenever something new, exciting or startling happens. She makes this long jawed face with her lips pursed together and then takes a deep breathe in, almost like a gasp. It is super funny. And now because we have all laughed when she does it, she thinks it's funny and so she does it all the time.
June 7, 2009: So because I am writing this way months ahead I can look back and make this entry. But it started raining around the 7th of June and continued to rain (almost non stop) for the entire month. There was so much rain this month that records were set, flooding happened down the hill from us as well as all over the state and the temperature only got to the 70's once the entire month.

June 8, 2009: Aaron left for Thailand today for work. He went with Nate Brown, his boss, and Brad from supplies. They are gone for two weeks on a "sourcing" trip but they sure have a lot of other touristy things planned. I must admit that I am super jealous. I can't appear that way on the outside because I know it would make Aaron feel guilty, especially because he will be gone during my birthday. But I can't help but feel a little bit of jealousy that he will be gone for two whole weeks to an exotic location without me. I wouldn't have a single problem with him going if he was taking me along, but alas I'm not invited. I kept hoping that somehow he would surprise me and say that he had a ticket for me and to meet him in a week after he was done with all his work. But he has assured me that that is not happening. Rats!!!! It will be hard to have him gone for two straight weeks. I guess I will be doing lots of hanging out with my family. Yeah!!!

June 9, 2009: Austin came up to my house and babysat Jade for me overnight while I worked. It's funny that both Jade and Austin really enjoy each others company. Austin actually gets pretty offended if I ask anyone else to babysit over night because he just thinks its great.
He told me that while he was babysitting her that it got to be around bedtime and that she grabbed Beary Bear off the floor and walked to the foot of the stairs. He said she made some kind of sound to get his attention and then waved for him to come upstairs with her. So he walked her up the stairs and she went right over to her bed and wanted "up." He put her in bed and she waved bye. He turned around, turned off the light, shut the door and he said she didn't make a peep for the rest of the night. He was completely amazed that she went to bed all on her own. What a great kid.
We had our fist diagnosed case of the Swine Flu at JVH today. The swine flu, or H1N1, started in Mexico and has supposedly killed millions. They are predicting that this flu could become pandemic and spread throughout the entire world. They are comparing it to the Spanish Flu pandemic that occured in the early 1900's. Supposedly this strain of flu hits a different demographic such as little kids, women in their third trimester and healthy adults in their early 20's. Not to mention the regular flu demographics of old, super young people and immunocompromised people. So far Utah has only seen 6 cases and most of them have been in Park City. But it has people really nervous, so much so that they have closed schools and public areas in Park City. So for us to see our first case of H1N1 at JVH makes everyone nervous. We'll see how it pans out.
June 11, 2009: I don't want to alarm anyone but my period is due today and I still haven't had it yet. Should I be nervous?
June 12, 2009: We have been teaching Jade to make animal sounds when we say a particular animals name. For instance, if I say horse she will blow a raspberry and shake her head back and forth mimicking a horse. It all started because we would read her a book, point out the animal and then make the sound. Well instead of saying the name of the animal, she mimicks the sound. She really has gotten good at it. Right now she can mimick the sound of a dog, cat, cow, and horse. Cierra has also recently taught her how to make the sound of an indian by patting her open mouth with her hand while making an Ah sound. Today she learned a new one, a bird. She says "cheap, cheap." It's adorable.
June 13, 2009: Today Jade and I went down to my parent's house for Summerfest. It is an annual event every June that Orem City puts on. They have a huge carnival, concerts, a parade and fireworks. Its really fun and we enjoy going every year. I think all of us kids have participated in Summerfest one way or the other while growing up. I know I was in the parade several years in a row during high school and so has Hudson, Auburn and the girls. Cierra and Paige were actually Junior Marshalls one year and got royal treatment.
Anyways, we always look forward to Summerfest. It's just one of those traditions that we do every year no matter what. This year, unfortunately, it rained the entire time. We got through most of the parade before it started to rain but it rained all the way until the fireworks. Then the heavens parted for a split second and they were able to launch the fireworks. Right after however, the rain started right back up again. Jade really seemed to enjoy the parade and fireworks. It was just too bad that she had to watch them through the car window. Maybe that's why she liked them so much, they weren't as loud and scary. :)
June 14, 2009: Today we celebrated my birthday at my mom's house with the grandparents. We had my birthday dinner that consisted of the usual; funeral potatoes, BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, canteloupe, spice cake and my ultimate favorite...homemade ice cream! I think I pick that every year. Why change a good thing, right?

We were going to spend the night because my birthday is in the morning but Jade was really fussy. I think she might have a tummy ache, at least she acted like it. So I took her home. Good thing I did because as I was pulling into the drive way she just suddenly threw up. Poor thing. However, once she threw up she fell right back asleep and slept really well all night. Maybe she just had too much ice cream.
June 15, 2009: Happy Birthday to ME!!! I am officially 28 years young today! (groan) I don't feel as old as that sounds. It actually startles me to say that I am 28yo. I still feel 21. I wish I still looked 21. :)
Aaron is still in Thailand. It's only been a week but it seems like he has been gone forever. We are able to email each other though. It sounds like he is having a great time and doing as much site seeing as "working." He's sent me some pictures and they are just amazing. The area is so green and beautiful and the cities are much more urbanized then I thought they would be. He still says there's tons of poverty and filth but that in the major cities they do a good job of hiding that.
Jade and I woke up late this morning, which was a nice gift being able to sleep in later than 8am. I was going to get in and out of the shower quick because we were running behind but Jade decided she wanted to take a shower too. She loves taking a shower with because because we have two shower heads, one that comes off and she holds onto that and plays while I actually shower. It really works out well. So, I got her naked and was getting myself ready for the shower when I looked over and Jade was taking a poo on the carpet in my closet. She stood there for a second, squatted down and then out came a piece of poo. I quickly grabbed her and was carrying her onto the tile when she decided to go again. What a mess. However, she was quite fascinated with the whole thing and walked over to the first turd and stared at it. I actually have a picture on my phone that I sent to Aaron of her squatting in front of it pointing at it. She thought it was so amazing. Needless to say, that wasn't a very fun birthday gift.

After we got ready we headed down to my parent's house and they took me to go get a refill for my Lovesac. They originally bought us a large love sac for our living room two Christmases ago but Addy (our old white cat) loved to pee on it while we were on vacation. So we had to get rid of all the stuffing but kept the outside shell. That was washable. I've just never replaced the insides because it cost so much money. So for my birthday present my parents went in on the stuffing with me so that I could have the love sac back.

Aaron left my present wrapped on the counter and told me I couldn't open it until my birthday and I must admit it was a real temptation but I held out until today. It ended up being a 15 inch digital picture frame. It is beautiful and I absolutely love it. It's exactly what I wanted. Funny how he picked up on all the hints I gave him. :)
For my birthday my family took me to Italian Village and we ate salads and pizza benders. Afterwards we went to Leatherby's and split a Granny split (9 scoops of ice cream with hot fudge and nuts. It's amazing!) After ice cream we all went over to my house and watched a movie and hung out until late and then they all went home.

After everyone left, I decided that I was going to take a pregnancy test. I still hadn't had my period yet and I just had this feeling that it might be positive. So I had a few tests that I had stashed away for such situations and I took one. To my amazement it came back positive. So I sent a picture text to Aaron telling him thank you for the gift but that I had one for him that would completely one up that. He immediatley sent me one back saying that it did.

Crazy huh? I can't believe I got pregant so soon after having a miscarriage in January. I mean, we have been trying because we would like Jade and the new sibling to be about two years apart, ideally, but it just seemed so fast. I really believe that Aaron and I must be the most fertile people on the planet because we say we are going to start trying for another kid and bam! I'm pregnant.
I'm happy though. This little one and Jade will be about 22 months apart. That seems perfect. Hopefully I don't regret that decision. But it's obviously supposed to happen for a reason. Yeah! Happy birthday to me!
June 17, 2009: I just found out that Roanne and Kylee have been diagnosed with the Swine Flu. They haven't been feeling well for several days, hence the reason I really haven't been over to visit them lately because I didn't want Jade or I to get sick. But I guess they kept getting worse, to the point that Roanne was having a hard time breathing, so Clair took them to their PMD and he diagnosed them with the Swine Flu. He gave them Tamiflu and sent them home. Told them to stay inside and not come in contact with anyone. Poor things.
When Clair called me to wish me a happy birthday, he told me the news and then said they would have to post pone my birthday dinner until later when they felt better. I totally agreed and offered to take them dinner. Of course he refused but I insisted. So I took them over dinner and just left it on the porch, rang the doorbell and waved to them through their storm glass door. There's no way I was going to get even close to them and put myself and Jade in jeopardy of getting sick. Poor things. I hope they recover quickly. I hear you can be sick in bed up to 14 days and that they entire time you are completely miserable. It can be pretty awful. Hopefully the Tamiflu will help with that.

June 20, 2009: Today we celebrated Father's Day with the whole Gunn Clan over at my parent's church. My parents were in charge of hosting the party but because of the rain (and it rained all day long) we couldn't house 50 people in my parent's house for the evening. It would have been okay if people were outside in the pool or playing in the backyard but with everyone home bound due to the rain, there just wasn't enough room. So my parents changed the location to their church, It actually worked out well because there was plenty of space for everyone to move around, eat and play games.
Jade loved playing with all of her cousins. It's been a while since we've been able to get together with the whole Gunn clan so at first she was a little intimidated by all the chaos but after about 10 minutes she was right in the middle of all the commotion and she loved every minute of it.
June 21, 2009:
I took this picture on our way down to my parent's house. A truck was completely engulfed in flames on Bangeter Highway. It was so hot that I could feel the heat while driving by. Come to find out, this truck belonged to Shad McCurdy's dad, a friend from highschool. His dad, mom and sister were in the truck on the way back from a camping trip when the gas cans from their 4-wheelers caught on fire. They were lucky to make it out alive.
Today we only celebrated Father's Day at my parent's house due to Roanne and Kylee still being sick. We will do Father's Day next week. I actually called Clair and asked if I could bring over dinner before I went down to my parents and he said yes. So I went Saturday night and got all the food and prepared it and then Sunday morning he called to tell me that they really didn't need dinner. That so many people from their ward had brought over things that they were fine for dinner. I was a little miffed only because I had taken the time to make the food and they really didn't need it. Oh well. It's the idea that counts I guess.
We had a really good time giving my dad his present for Father's Day. He has been hinting that he wants a GPS unit for either Father's Day or his birthday but he wants to be able to pick one out because he can get the one he really wants and get it refurbished off the internet so that it doesn't cost as much. So us kids decided to give him money as his present and we played Deal or No Deal for him to win his present. He actually picked the suitcase that had the money in it. He couldn't have played it any better had he have cheated. It really was a fun way to give him his gift and he got to buy something that he really wanted.

I felt bad that Aaron wasn't here to celebrate Father's Day. Jade and I sent him a text message telling him that we loved him and then we wrapped his present of white shirts and ties and Jade even made him one of her famous cards. He can open it when he gets home.
June 22, 2009: Aaron came home from Thailand today. He got home in the morning so we were able to spend the whole day together before he went to work the next day. He had lots of souvenirs to give us, one being a beautiful hand-painted oil painting of a famous temple. We spent the day doing laundry, looking at his pictures and letting him take a nap because he was so jet lagged. Jade and I gave him his Father's Day present and he loved her card. All in all it was a pleasant day and it was nice to have him home. I sure did miss him while he was gone.
June 23, 2009: Jade said DaDa for the first time so that it was very pronounced what she was saying. He came home from work today and she ran right up to him and said Dada. Boy, did he have the biggest chester cat grin on his face. You would have thought he won a million dollars. It was really cute.
June 24, 2009: Aaron is having a hard time adjusting after Thailand. He is still super jet lagged. He is tired during the day, almost to the point of exhaustion and then is wide awake in the middle of the night and can't sleep. So he came home early from work today so he could take a nap. It actually worked out well because I needed a babysitter so that I could go do a medical session at the Oquirrh Mtn temple open house. So he stayed home and watched Jade while I did a four hour shift. Afterwards we meet at the man made lake at Day Break and had Subway sandwiches and walked around the lake watching the sunset. It was a beautiful evening and Jade had a blast walking around by herself vs sitting in the stroller. We had a tennis ball and Jade would run ahead of us, turn around, and then throw the ball back to us. She has become a great little thrower. Cierra showed her how to do it. She holds it up to her ear and then releases. It works great and she has quite the arm for a 13 month old.
June 27, 2009: The cousins Boston and Ethan came over to check out Aaron's new pheasants. Aaron came home from work and decided to pick up some pheasants that a guy was selling on ksl.com. We have three baby pheasants that wonder around our backyard. They love all the bugs and spiders that hang out around our rock wall. Jade loves chasing them around.

June 30, 2009: Just a little side note on Jade's character. She loves to push her stroller when she's not sitting in it. Actually she loves to push anything with wheels, but especially her stroller. Funny kid.
